Raksha Bandhan Review: Raksha Bandhan is full of drama, social commentary, and brother-sister love
Even today there is some girl in our country on whom pressure is being made to give dowry. There is a girl whose brother or father is facing difficulties in collecting dowry. There is a girl who is seeing her worth in front of relatives every day. And this is the reality of our society even today.
this is the story of the film-
The Dowry system has been a part of our society for centuries. At the time of the marriage of the daughter, we all have seen the family giving goods from all over the world to the boys. In today’s time, even though it has been given the name of ‘gifts’ instead of dowry, but it is only dowry. The story of Lala Kedarnath (Akshay Kumar) and his four sisters is related to the dowry system.
The place is Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Lala Kedarnath runs his golgappa and chaat shop here. Lala’s chaat is famous all over Chandni Chowk, but pregnant women are crazier about her. The reason is that they believe that by eating the golgappas of Lala’s shop, they will be blessed with a son. In the desire for a son, many pregnant women stand in line every day before the shop opens. Lala Kedarnath says that the whole game is for boys, you want one and I want four!
Lala’s only purpose in life is to get her four sisters Gayatri (Sadiya Khatib), Durga (Deepika Khanna), Lakshmi (Smriti Shrikant), and Saraswati (Sahezmin Kaur) married. On the other hand, Lala’s own childhood love Sapna (Bhumi Pednekar) is also stuck about marriage. Sapna’s father wants her to get married as soon as possible and follows Kedarnath. But Kedarnath has promised his mother that until he gets his sisters married, Won’t settle his home. That is why he is melting his bones in collecting money for the dowry of his sisters.
How’s the film?
The first half of the film is full of drama. Lala Kedarnath keeps on getting married all the time. Marriage has become more of a passion than responsibility for him. Such a great passion that if she saw her sister talking to a boy, she would have been ready to tie her up with him, later it was found that she was talking to the scrap dealer. He always seems to be screaming in the name of marriage. hi, wedding! hi, wedding!
You also get to see the fun of sisters in the first. Except for Gayatri, all the other sisters are completely wild. There is love in them but they are not behind even in pulling each other’s legs. And Gayatri is simple like this But if needed, she can also make everyone chew their nose and gram. Everyone’s relationship is even deeper than his brother Kedarnath. Even if Kedarnath does not irritate him every day by calling him ‘Double Decker’, ‘Amaavas Ki Raat’, and ‘Sunny Deol’.
Emotions have been filled in the second half. Here Lala gets such a big shock that after giving her dowry first, her tone changes. Now Lala is against dowry. His sisters are beginning to see him as a piece of the moon. With the money he had deposited, he has now agreed to teach them. And has declared that ‘the girls of this house do not take dowry.’

Director Aanand L Rai had gone too far back in time to show the story of dowry. He put his life in the character of Akshay Kumar but forgot to put his life in the character of sisters and Bhumi Pednekar. Lala’s sisters love themselves as they are But still, in the name of marriage, she keeps tolerating rubbish. Do what the brother says, do what he does. They just don’t go anywhere. Like they were made just to love and respect a brother and get married someday.
Bhumi Pednekar’s character Sapna is completely ruined in the first half. Love is not visible far and wide in Sapna’s eyes, she is full of frustration. She roams around Lala with the word of marriage. She declares her sisters to be witches and Sapna’s father is playing on a different level.
The songs in the film are not amazing. Listening to its many jokes, do you think what is being said brother? When drama becomes over drama, you become irritated. And a lot of things are going to irritate in the film.
performance-
Akshay Kumar has done quite the right thing in his character. A passionate lover who is in love with a responsible brother, Sapna, who is forced by fate. In this character, Akshay has worked with the right emotions. You get to see his overactive form full of comedy and then in the emotional form he does wonders. Saadia Khatib, Deepika Khanna, Smriti Shrikant, and Sahjmin Kaur’s work in the role of sisters is also good. Bhumi Pednekar has done a fine job. Neeraj Sood dominated the role of Sapna’s father. Sahil Mehta is very good in the role of a supportive friend and companion. Seema Pahwa’s cameo was also right.
