7 Facts About the Game of Thrones Prequel House of the Dragon

Game of Thrones was set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and Essos, and followed several storylines over the course of eight seasons, focusing primarily on the conflict between several noble houses of Westeros vying for control of the Iron Throne, as well as those fighting to gain independence from it. The HBO series was nominated numerous times and won 272 awards, including 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, a record for a drama series. While critics lauded it for its storyline, characters, and setting, among other things, the last season, and especially the series finale, left both critics and fans disappointed. Fortunately, this scenario is still reversible: House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones spin-off that will act as a prequel to the series, will be produced by HBO in 2020. This upcoming production, which will launch on August 21, promises a new storyline and cast of characters reminiscent of the core of the original series. Prior to the launch of House of the Dragon, this article will go over several important topics.

Get Ready to Meet the Targaryen Dynasty-

Game of Thrones exposed spectators to multiple Westeros noble families, but House of the Dragon focuses on one of them: the Targaryen dynasty, ancestors of the formidable Daenerys. The prequel is set nearly 200 years before the events of the original series and focuses on The House of Targaryen’s reign and the subsequent civil war known as “The Dance of the Dragons,” a tumultuous period during which they all fought against each other to take control of the Iron Throne, eventually leading to the extinction of the dragons. House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s novel Fire and Blood, and the author co-created the new production with Ryan J. Condal.

Warning: Dragons Everywhere-

Among other things, the Targaryen dynasty is famed for its strong relationship with dragons. This link was initially explored in Game of Thrones by Daenerys’ dragons, who were the last of their kind. House of the Dragon takes place two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, at a period when dozens of dragons roamed the skies. In fact, Martin said that the series will contain numerous dragons, each with its own personality and appearance. The inclusion of these animals in the series surely keeps viewers interested.

A Cast Packed With New Faces-

Due to the time period in which House of the Dragon is set, none of the original series’ characters will return for the prequel. On the contrary, the entire cast is made up of various performers with careers that only raise the audience’s expectations for these new roles. Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Milly Alcock, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emily Carey, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, and Sonoya Mizuno are the production’s primary performers, although at least 20 other actors have also been announced for season one.

A Series Featuring Multiple Timelines?

Another significant distinction between Game of Thrones and its precursor is the storyline’s multi-year leaps. While there were occasional flashbacks in the original series, they were not frequent and only began in season five. House of the Dragon’s storyline is highly unique, with a large ten-year jump midway through the season and more time jumps to come. In actuality, the teaser shows the two actors that play Rhaenyra Targaryen: Milly Alcock as a child version and Emma D’Arcy as an adult version.

Miguel Sapochnik: The Return of a Master Filmmaker-

Season one of House of the Dragon is planned to have ten episodes, however little is known about them at the moment. Only the first two episodes’ titles, “The Heirs of the Dragon” and “The Rogue Prince,” have been revealed. All subsequent episodes will be announced on a weekly basis. However, we do know that a legendary Game of Thrones filmmaker, Miguel Sapochnik, is returning for this new production. This film and television director is best known for directing some of the original series’ most iconic episodes, including “Battle of the Bastards,” for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award and a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, “The Winds of Winter,” and “The Long Night,” among others.

The Soundtrack is Composed By a Renowned Emmy Winner-

Ramin Djawadi, the Iranian-German composer and music producer, has also joined the team to work on the musical score for this new HBO series. Sapochnik is not the only specialist on the saga of Westeros’ aristocratic families who have returned to work on this new HBO series. Djawadi received numerous nominations and accolades for his work on Game of Thrones. The music scores for the episodes “The Dragon and the Wolf” and “The Long Night” received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series.

A New Look For the Iron Throne-

It is now commonly understood that the Iron Throne has been the metaphorical foundation of all Westeros’ struggles since its inception. This seat, made of a thousand swords, is reserved for the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Viewers who paid close attention to the House of the Dragon teaser may have noticed something very crucial about this throne: it does not look the same as it does in Game of Thrones. The Iron Throne in the new series more accurately and closely resembles the one in Martin’s novel series, with many swords surrounding it and lifted by a set of steps.
