Asia Cup 2022: Facts about India vs Pakistan ahead of the blockbuster Match

In the history of the Asia Cup, with the tournament being played in both the 50 and 20 over formats, India has dominated Pakistan with 8 wins against the arch-rivals.

The first-ever India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash took place on April 13, 1984, in Sharjah and India won by 54 runs, under Sunil Gavaskar’s captaincy.

India pulled out of the second edition of the Asia Cup in 1985 due to strained cricket relations with host Sri Lanka.

Virat Kohli will play his 100th T20I against Pakistan on Sunday. He will be only the second player to accomplish the milestone, following New Zealand's Ross Taylor.

Virat Kohli holds the record for the highest individual score in India-Pakistan Asia Cup matches.

It is interesting to note that India and Pakistan have never faced each other in an Asia Cup final.

In the previous edition, India went undefeated throughout the tournament and won the trophy in Dubai, defeating Bangladesh in the final.

India and Pakistan have only played one T20I in Dubai. Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021 last October.

India will be without the talents of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel for today's encounter due to injuries. Due to an injury, Pakistan's left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi is also unavailable.

India and Pakistan are in Group A of this year's Asia Cup, together with Hong Kong, a qualifier. They will almost certainly encounter at least twice (again in Super Four), and if they win the Super Four, they will meet again in the final on September 11.
